As with any other sport, American football has given the world a whole galaxy of successful athletes. The most brilliant of them is Tom Brady, a former quarterback of the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Tom Brady’s college career started at the University of Michigan. Being a backup quarterback for the Wolverines, he struggled to get playing time. Back in the day, he wasn’t able to cope with frustration and a lack of confidence. He even had to resort to a sports psychologist’s help. Only after two years at the team did Tom manage to earn a starting spot. Only with a great deal of effort was he able to hold this position. And it took him two more seasons to get his ticket to the professional league.
Despite the fact that Tom asserted himself in the final game of the 1999 college football season, little did anyone in the NFL realise his true potential. No one could have imagined that Tom would end up being the most decorated NFL player in history. So unpromising did his career prospects seem that he was picked only in the sixth round of the draft. At the Patriots, Tom had to wait in the wings yet again. Only after the starting quarterback had gotten injured did Tom establish himself as the team leader—the position that he would hold for the next 20 seasons. Over the course of those years, he has won six Super Bowls and has set a whole bunch of records that will take some beating.
However, when in the 2020-2021 season the Patriots decided not to extend Tom’s contract, he found himself at a crossroads. Was it high time he retired? While the majority of sports analysts expected the 43-year-old quarterback to finish his career, he accepted a new challenge with the Bucs, who were considered underdogs back then. Tom would rather win one more trophy. And win one more Super Bowl, he did. Thus, once again, he proved everyone wrong. He could have ended his career in a blaze of glory, but he decided not to rest on his laurels and embarked on another season—as it turned out, his last one. Even though result-wise the 2021-2022 season wasn’t Tom’s most impressive one, it was a worthy finish of his spectacular career.
Dedication, perseverance, and a thirst for victory are what made Tom Brady an outstanding athlete. With a winner’s mindset and his wealth of experience, he might become a great coach. If he decides to join the ranks of sports analysts, his insights will be unparalleled. Whatever career he chooses to pursue, to see the next chapter of his life is my wish.
